How To Measure & Order New Or Replacement Drawers And Rollout Shelving & Pullout Trays

Step 1

Determine The Type Of Drawer Or Rollout Shelf That You Want

  • Standard Drawer Box - Same height sides on all four sides.
  • Rollout Drawer - This unit has uniform side heights with the "Galley" scoop cutout on the front.
  • Highback Drawer - This unit has the higher rear side with the "swoop" sides coming down to a lower front with the "Galley" scoop standard.

Step 2

Measure Your Existing Drawer Box Or Determine Your Desired Size

  • Always use outside measurements when measuring an existing drawer.
  • If you are measuring a high back drawer, then order your custom drawer based on the "high" measurement and the normal taper will be to a 3" front height.  If you require a different height on the front, please let us know in the "comments" section of your shopping cart.
  • The "galley" scoop is 1" x 4".  If you require a special configuration, let us know.
  • Some special requests will result in a price increase.

Determine Your Drawer Slide Type

  • Drawer slide types make a difference! Based on your selection of side mount, undermount (see below for more information) or center mount slides, you will need to size your drawer box to facilitate your slides
  • The full extension ball bearing slide and the epoxy euro slide are both side mount slides and will require 1/2" clearance between the drawer side and each of the opening sides
  • Undermount slides, such as the Vitus or Blum will require specific clearances between the drawer sides and the opening sides based on drawer material thickness. See the clearance specifications listed on the product pages for either the Vitus or Blum Undermount slides.  These slides will also require special modifications to the drawer for them to be installed.  If all else fails, call us Mon-Fri 8am to 5pm (all times central).
The slide selection should be made prior to ordering your drawers as it will affect the size ordered.

What Drawer Slides Or Hardware Should I Choose?

Blum Undermount Soft Close, Self-close Slide

  • Will not be seen on the side of the drawer when the drawer is opened
  • Offers "soft close, self-close" mechanism for smooth operation
  • Blum 563 model offers 100# static load capacity
  • Blum is available in 3" increments from 12" to 21" as standard
  • Requires special drawer construction and modifications.  This notching/boring is available when you order your pullout/rollout shelves.
  • Requires special measurements for drawer clearance
    • For 1/2" drawer material thickness, subtract 5/8" from opening width
    • For 5/8" drawer material thickness, subtract 3/8" from opening width
    • After determining drawer thickness, calculate your pullout/rollout width.  Ex. 19-1/4" (clear opening) - 3/8" (for 5/8" sides) =  18-7/8" will be the pullout/rollout width
  • Depth of pullout/rollout will be the longest slide that will fit your opening depth, to the nearest 3" length.  These slides require 1" additional to its usable length; a 21" slide requires 22" of clear depth.
  • Can be installed in either frameless or face frame cabinets (may require rear mounting bracket on face frame cabinets)

Full Extension, Ball Bearing Side Mount Slide

  • This slide is visible on the side of the pullout/rollout shelf when extended
  • Will fully extend up to its entire length when opened
  • Our 303 series has a 100# static load capactiy, exceeding most residential needs
  • Available in 2" increments from 10" to 28".
  • Does not require any special pullout/rollout construction or modification
  • Requires 1/2" clearance between the drawer and drawer opening on each side of drawer or pullout
    • Subtract a total of 1-1/16" from the clear opening
    • Calculate pullout/rollout width.  Ex. 19-1/4" (clear opening) - 1-1/16" = 18-3/16" will be the pullout/rollout width
  • Can be installed with as little height clearance as necessary to insure smooth in and out operation (3/8" recommended)
  • Can be installed in either frameless or face frame cabinets (may require rear mounting bracket on face frame cabinets)

Epoxy Euro Slide, 3/4 Extension, Side Mount Slide

  • Most common "builder grade" slide in use today
  • Is visible on the side of the pullout/rollout shelf when opened
  • Will allow for the pullout/rollout shelf to open approximately 3/4 of it length when fully extended
  • Available in 2" increments from 12" to 22"
  • Easy install
  • Requires 1/2" clearance between the drawer and drawer opening on each side of drawer or pullout
    • Subtract a total of 1" from the clear opening
    • Calculate pullout/rollout width.  Ex. 19-1/4" (clear opening) - 1" = 18-1/4" will be the pullout/rollout width
  • Can be installed in either frameless or face frame cabinets (may require rear mounting bracket on face frame cabinets)
  • If mounting slides in a face frame style cabinet, be sure to purchase slides that will reach to the rear of the cabinet where they can connect to the rear mounting bracket.  Normally, in a kitchen, you will use a 22" slide and in a bathroom, the standard would be 20"
The above information is generic and applies to MOST installations, follow mfg installation instructions if available.
