Cabinet Door and Drawer Front Finishing

Valley Oak Finish Colors

About the finish

Valley Oak utilizes a high-quality conversion varnish in these prefinished products.  The finish is a high solids, low VOC emissions product with a uniquely strong level of durability and is designed to provide years of service under normal conditions.  The majority of the stains are sprayed, then hand-wiped to achieve maximum grain clarity.

All products are then seal sanded with 320 grit sandpaper and a resiliant heavy-build, top-coat is applied.  As the final step, products are oven baked to ensure that the finish is hardened appropriately and is resistant to moisture and household chemicals.

The samples below may vary from actual finish color due to monitor and color depiction differences from computer to computer.  If needed, order a sample to verify color choices.  Do not depend solely on these computer generated samples when color matching.

Finish Warranty

Our finish tolerances are based on solid wood applications.  Finish applied to veneers, moldings and various accessory items will result in color variations.  In addition, stains applied by our customers may vary from those applied by Valley Oak.  Since grain and wood density may affect how stain is absorbed, variations can be expected dependion on species, profiles and stain color.  These variations are not considered as defects.

Valley Oak finishes carry a one year warranty against peeling, cracking or blistering.  Since many species may darken with age, the finish color can be expected to change over time.  We recommend that a finished sample door be ordered prior to ordering any finish job.  Samples over 1 year old are not indicative of current finish.

Veneer checking and seam separation are inherent characteristics of plywood that may appear to be cracks within the coating. These are caused by changes within the veneer and will not be considered defective.

Because paints contain a high percentage of solids, certain characteristics such as joint fracturing will occur. Hairline cracks typically develop along joints on the face, back and edge profiles and can occur during normal handling or from the expansion and contraction of wood. Joint fracturing is not considered to be a defect.

Glazing

Glazing is an extremely subjective process in which significant variations can occur that will provide a unique appearance to each product.  As is the case with traditional finishes---profiles, grain patterns and wood density will impact color consistency of the final product.  Variations are to be expected and are not warranted as a result.  It is strongly recommended that a sample door be ordered in advance of a job, as some species color/glaze combinations can significantly alter the appearance of a product.

Custom Stain Options

Valley Oak also offers a custom stain option in whichg stains can be matched against a sample provided by the customer.  A representative sample of the color-match must be provided in order to achieve the matching finish.  Once the match is achieved, the customer will be sent a hard sample and will be asked to sign and return the sample, as well as an approval waiver.

There is a $250 net charge for the initial color match.  Once a custom finish has been developed, a mix number will be provided for identification so that the finish can be reordered.  A premium of $5.25 additional per square foot is applied onto our standard finish price for each subsequent order to address the handling costs associated with maintaining custom finishes.  Custom finishes are maintained for one year past the date of the most recent use.  Please allow 5-10 days for all color matches.

Lead Times

Finished product lead times are generally five (5) days in addition to production times normally associated with the product (ex: doors 5-7 work days unfinished + 5 additional days for finishing = 10-12 work days total lead time.  Custom finishes may be longer than five (5) days.
